Passion For Make-Up

I'm not much of an artist per se. I don't draw well, my handwriting oftentimes is only legible to me and I have yet to memorize the color wheel. :) But I've always had a passion for make-up - not so much the artsy, glamour aspect of make-up I seem to find myself being entangled in (due to hubby's photo shoots) but I'm interested in the enhancing effect of make-up.

So you can  just imagine my level of excitement when fellow blogger Ms. Ria Jose informed me of the "Basic Make-up Workshop" organized by FiDA (Fashion Institute of Design and Arts). The Basic Make-up Workshop is a three day workshop which tackles the origins of make-up, skin preparation and analysis, importance of make-up application, hygiene and sanitation among others

Mr. Archie Tolentino Chief MUA Maybelline NY

The workshop is conducted by Maybelline New York - Philippines Chief Make-up Artist Mr. Archie Tolentino. I was in awe that someone as good as him was the one to teach us the ropes of basic make-up. After all, I've seen his work and his name printed in most glamour and fashion magazines!

The first day I was a bit intimidated with the ladies in my class, since most of them have been doing bridal make-up and some were like runway models! They sure know a lot about make-up.. I thought. But as it turned out, all of us had a lot to learn from make-up guru, Mr. Archie Tolentino. He was a nice fellow who was so open in sharing a lot of useful and uber practical tips (he's not madamot so to speak) on top of the workshop topics.

Another thing I enjoyed is the company of the ladies in my class, who all turned out to be nice! We even had a private group in facebook so we can share latest discoveries in make-up post workshop! :)

Some of the ladies in my class during the lunch break, enjoying each other's company and already making plans to attend the Advanced Make-up Workshop also being organized by FiDA. :)

Anyways, back to the workshop...the classes were held in one of FiDA's specialized classrooms with lighted vanity mirrors for each participant. For the workshop fee, be prepared to shell out P5,000 for the entire 3-day workshop which includes numerous practice sessions and a lot of coaching from Mr. Tolentino.

This one is taken from our workshop where we transferred to a bigger room since there were about eleven of us in that batch :) The workshop taught us to be like chemists mixing different foundations and eye make-up in search for the perfect blend for our skin. At first it was difficult but learning about the different facial structures, coordinating the different shades to a specific skin color and understanding the proper enhancing effect of make-up is truly an art in itself.

The workshop fee of P5,000 however does not include any tools or products so bring all of your brushes and your big make-up kit. I for one regretted not bringing all my brushes, especially when we tackled the different uses of each one. Sigh. Another thing you have to be ready for is to bring own provisions for food (lunch that is) and water due to the fact that the course fee does not cover that as well.

But overall, the workshop was a huge success for me. I've learned a lot and found out a number of things  I've been doing wrong when it comes to make-up. Many thanks again to the expertise of Mr. Archie Tolentino who was great at the helm of this workshop. We've learned a great deal and hopefully we get to paint a lot of faces making them look and feel as goddesses after we are done applying what we've learned in this workshop.
